Overindulgence during the holidays.

We all may have good intentions going into the holidays but reality may not look as pretty. I have come up with some tips to get through the holidays and come out on top.

  1. Drink a glass of water in between each cocktail/beer.

  2. Eat something before going to the party so you don’t overeat. Don’t skip eating altogether you will end up with a raging hangover. If there is no food served or your at a bar bring a small bag of nuts to munch on, the protein will balance the sugars in the alcohol. (My Homeopathic doctor’s advice)

  3. Choose a beverage with less sugar such as a tonic or spritzer to reduce headaches and sugar overload or do what I do and have a kombucha mocktail.

  4. Select only one dessert option on the long table of goodies or share a small selection with someone.

  5. Pick a day of the week to have a Christmas treat instead of every night.

  6. Eat a dinner salad with your holiday meal to fill you up so you don’t overeat and to get your veggies in.

  7. Drink plenty of water through the evening to stay hydrated and avoid hangovers.

  8. Have a set time that you will leave the party instead of staying til the end and regretting the extra drink.

  9. Don’t bake your personal Christmas cookies or desserts until the week of Christmas so that you aren’t eating them all month.

  10. Find healthier versions of your favorite holiday dishes to cut out some of the extra sugars and fats.

  11. Fill up on seasonal veggies and fruits so you don’t go into a heavy meal eating everything offered.

  12. Have mixed nuts in bowls around the house instead of candy.
